"Read for the Record"

The Butler County Boys & Girls Club hosted much more than simply a book reading on Thursday, October 3rd.

The "Read for the Record" program was first founded in 2006 by the Jump Start organization. The primary itinerary of the program is to support Jump Start in its quest to promote early childhood education and literacy. Every year, a single day is dedicated to this program and it's concerns. In 2012 alone, Read for the Record engaged 2.3 million children. Since 2006, the program has engaged an unbelievable 9 million children across the United States, raised over $8 million for education programs, and provided over 1.2 million books to children in low-income circumstances.

The book this year, "Otis" was written by New York Time's best-selling author Loren Long and underlines the overwhelming power of friendship and heroism regardless of demeanor and opinions of others regarding self-worth and competence. The book was read to the children by two  members of the Morgantown/Butler County community;  Aparna Gupta and Robin Schroeder.

Aparna Gupta, the director of Kentucky Copper, Inc. has been in the profession of copper manufacturing and business administration for 20 years and counting. She obtained a master's degree in business administration with concentration in finance symbiosis at the Institute of Management Studies in India.

Robin Schroeder, the executive secretary of the Butler County Chamber of Commerce, was once a 6-year member of the Boys & Girls Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. Schroeder says these years during her childhood had a very positive impact on her life.

Bruce White, director of the Boys & Girls Club introduced the two readers to the children. Reading then commenced with Schroeder reading the first half aloud followed by Gupta with the second half.
