Radiothon raises $19,500 for Morgantown Mission

The 14th Annual Radiothon for the Morgantown Mission, held on Friday, November 7, began with the goal of collecting enough pledges to fill 600 holiday food baskets for needy local families.

"Thank you, God," was a phrase often heard on Friday as several people, businesses, groups, churches, farmers, county officials, and organizations came out to show their support for the Morgantown Mission.

The radiothon got an early start this year with 210 baskets pledged during WLBQ’s Out On A Limb program. Donations rolled in steadily throughout the morning, and so did the rain, forcing the crew to move inside the Pantry.  By the end of the broadcast, there were 629 total basket donations.  The donations continued throughout the weekend, with a Monday morning total of 650, bringing the total to $19,500.

The baskets will be distributed during the holiday season to families in need in the community. Each basket will contain a turkey, stuffing, potatoes, vegetables, bread, gravy, and cranberry sauce.

"We want to say thank you to everyone who made the radiothon a success," said WLBQ's Diane Dyer.  We are blessed and humbled to be a small part of such a caring and generous community."
