Price named ESPN Owensboro Player of the Year

OWENSBORO — Butler County sophomore guard Ty Price has been named the ESPN Owensboro Player of the Year. 

Price led Butler County throughout the 2022-23 boys' high school basketball season, averaging 31.2 points per game. Among the top boys' high school basketball players in the state, Price scored 1,000 points in 32 games. He is only the third player in 3rd Regioon history to score 1,000 points in a single season. During his senior season at Breckinridge County, Butch Beard, who went on to star in the NBA, scored 1,024 points. Former Kentucky Wildcat Patrick Sparks, another productive shooter, scored 1,006 points during his senior season at Muhlenberg North, which was later part of a consolidation move to become Muhlenberg County. 

Price shot 87.2 percent (191-of-219) from three-point range. The talented sophomore shot 38.6 percent (141-of-365) from three-point range. He made 141 three-point field goals, setting a new 3rd Region record. Price averaged 4.4 three-point field goals per game.

With Price leading the way, Butler County reached the semifinals of the 2022-23 3rd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament. Price scored 41 points during Butler County's game versus Owensboro in the 3rd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament Semifinals. 

Butler County exited the 2022-23 boys' high school basketball season 22-11. 

Price continues to draw recruiting attention from numerous men's college basketball programs from across the nation.
