PREVIEW: BCHS Lady Bears Basketball 2023-24
The Lady Bears Basketball season opens tonight at home vs. the Russellville Lady
Panthers. Tipoff time is at 6:00 p.m. Tonight’s game is varsity only.
Under the direction of Head Coach Lexie Belcher beginning her sixth season,
the Lady Bears return experience and depth. Eight Lady Bears either started or
saw quality playing minutes last season. The Lady Bears last season finished
with an overall record of (19-11) and was the winner of the 12th District Championship.
The Lady Bears lost in the opening round of Region 3 tournament to the Owensboro
Catholic HS Lady Aces, who went on to win the Region 3 title last March.
The Lady Bears and Russellville met twice last season and both games
went to the final buzzer. Scores were last season - Lady Bears won 45-43; the
Lady Panthers won 46-45. Russellville was hit hard by graduation, on starting
roles, so the more experienced Lady Bears should have the edge tonight, and
home court advantage in the season opener.
The Lady Bears varsity roster is comprised of Taylor Leach, Ann Marie
Skaggs, Bailey Moore, Tinslea Belcher, Karrington Hunt, Parker Willoughby,
Addison Easley, and Ava Wilson.
The Lady Bears preseason scrimmages with Clinton Co. HS, and McLean
Co. HS allowed the coaching staff to get many looks, and prepare for tonight’s
season opener.
Coach Belcher, in a quick interview, feels the 12th District Girls is
up for grabs but gives the Grayson Co. Lady Cougars the edge with the most
returning experience. Coach Belcher feels the Third Region favorites are Daviess
Co. HS, Breck Co. HS, Owensboro Catholic HS.
Lady Bears staff of assistants includes Zeke Woodcock, Jazmin Reynolds,
Jessie McKee, and Josh Belcher. Staffing assistants coach the JV team, Freshman
team, and BC Middle School team. The Jr. Pro Coordinator is Rodney McMillin.
