PREP FOOTBALL: Bears come up short at Webster County
DIXON — Butler County came up short as Webster County battled back from behind to win 30-26 on Friday, Aug. 30.
With the loss, Butler County dropped to 0-2
Webster County evened its record to 1-1 after notching the win.
The Bears and Trojans met for a non-district game.
Butler County led 26-11 at halftime but faltered in the second half.
Webster County outscored the Bears 19-0 in the second half to register the win.
Quarterback Garrett Phelps led the Bears. Through the air, Phelps completed eight passes for 170 yards and three touchdowns. On the ground, Phelps rushed 15 times for 168 yards and one touchdown.
Kellon Meredith emerged as Butler County's leading receiver. Meredith hauled in four receptions for 111 yards and two touchdowns.
Chipping in on the ground for Butler County, Cainan Vincent added a 15-yard rushing touchdown.
Defensively for Butler County, Tucker DeJarnette recorded a team-high 22 tackles while Kevin Robins tallied 21 tackles.
Delivering both offensively and defensively for Butler County, Meredith added an interception.
Butler County is scheduled to host Warren Central for its home opener at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6.
