PREP BASKETBALL: Rice commits to WKU

MORGANTOWN — Butler County senior forward Lawson Rice announced his commitment to the Western Kentucky University men's basketball program today. 

 

 After visiting Western Kentucky University, Rice received an offer from the WKU men's basketball program on Friday, Aug. 2.

Rice excelled as a junior throughout the 2023-24 boys' high school basketball season, averaging a double-double of 18.0 points and 10.7 rebounds per game for the Bears. A longtime standout for Butler County, Rice scored 576 points and pulled down 343 rebounds in his junior campaign. 


WKU competes in Conference USA. A tradition-rich program, WKU is the reigning Conference USA Men's Basketball Champion. The Hilltoppers compiled a 22-12 record in the 2023-24 men's college basketball season. WKU made an appearance in the 2023-24 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. 

Rice has drawn recruiting interest from several men's college basketball programs. He and his Butler County teammates will open preseason practice in mid-October.
