Playground accident sends child to hospital

Last Saturday, a playground accident sent one child to the hospital via helicopter. Dispatch received a call at 5:52 pm reporting that a small child had fallen from a slide and had suffered a severe injury to his leg. Butler County EMS, Morgantown City Police, and Air Evac responded to the Morgantown city park. The child was flown to a pediatric trauma center where he received treatment.

It's been awhile since I've taken my kids to the City Park, but last time we were there I couldn't let them on the slides because they were too high off the ground and created too far of a fall risk for them. Not sure if that's how this child was injured, but worth looking into nonetheless.
Why are there no speed bumps at the park? Only semi related, I know, but I am certain a child is going to be seriously injured due to the negligence of the teenagers speeding through there. Common sense tells us children at a playground and cars speeding past just a few feet away is not safe. It shouldn't take a child getting killed for something as little as speed bumps to be put in. So I truely hope they'll just do it already... Or at the very least start handing out more tickets to those who think its super cool to race at the park. Sorry for the rant, I just think it is something to be addressed, sooner rather than later. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
I can't tell you how many times my 8yr old daughter has done this, and everytime. I have to make her get down and set out from playing to punish her! It is so dangerous, and I just knew she would fall! I hope the little one who was hurt will be ok and that this will show the other parents out there what can happen!! Prayers for this child and the family!!
This was my child who was injured. He suffered a fractured femur. Sunday he had surgery to repair it and will spend all summer healing. Kids will be kids and climb and that's what happened in this case. He, being told many times not to do so, climbed up on top of the round (covered) slide. After he climbed almost to the top, due to the slide being round, he slid off and fell to the ground. I agree with the above comment, that there should be more safety measures in place so the kids can play safely. The slides are too easy for children to climb up on top of and fall off. We all know you can tell a kid not to do something but if they are curious, as my boy was (to see if he could climb to the top and then climb over the railing), then an accident is bound to happen at one time or another...
My child was also injured last year at the city park. He was hurt on the metal slides tho, They were dangerous had broken steps and missing safety bars. I filed a claim with the city and they took them down. He also had a very bad broken arm. He had to have 3 surgeries on his arm all together. I feel for you, Shawna, hopes your child gets well soon!
