The Picture Man Travels to Grace Temple

The Picture Man is a firm believer in that old saying “A picture is worth a thousand words.” The picture before him this past Monday at Grace Temple was one of a flurry of work. Not the kind of work where you have a job you really don’t like but more like the kind of work you do when you have favorite company coming over and you’re getting the house ready.

Pastor Brian before the meal.

Positioned in the hallway between the kitchen and dining area at Grace Temple’s Soup Kitchen, the Picture Man watched as Pastor Brian Allen, wife Daphney, and their host of happy helpers finished carving apart the turkey and filling the food pans. Green beans, yams mashed potatoes, gravy, corn and macaroni and cheese were all dished up. Cranberry sauce had been set out on the dining tables and dessert was waiting in reserve as the annual event at the soup kitchen got underway.

A conversation was struck between the two men and Pastor Brian explained, “We are multi-denominational and have had this Thanksgiving meal event for the needy now for the last four years. Last year we had forty people here and tonight it looks like we will have more than that.” Stepping away from Brian for a moment, the Picture Man had the chance to photograph some of the good-looking food and talk to Daphney, who told him “these folks are like our extended family.”

Brian next blessed the food and while the women worked to serve eager faces, the two men stood and talked some more. Brian said, “The needy people you see here tonight have a mix of situations; some of them are on a fixed income, maybe have lost their jobs, have hit some unexpected hard times or just do not have anybody else, and there is probably at least one homeless person here.”

Church Service is every Sunday at 10:30am.
The soup kitchen is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursdays from 5-7 p.m. Church services are every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at 111 W. Ohio St in Morgantown, Kentucky.
