Phelps surpasses 1,000 passing yards

MORGANTOWN — Butler County junior quarterback Garrett Phelps has surpassed 1,000 passing yards in the 2023 high school football season.

 

Through nine games, Phelps has completed 78 passes for 1,029 yards and five touchdowns. Phelps has completed at least one pass to 10 different receivers. 

Currently, Phelps is averaging 114.3 passing yards per game for the Bears.  

Gage Beasley leads the Bears in receiving. Beasley has hauled in 26 receptions for 499 yards and four touchdowns.

Behind Beasley in the Bears' passing attack, Trevor Joiner, Kellon Meredith, Jay Peralta and Tucker DeJarnette round out Butler County's group of top five receivers. 

Butler County has rushed 72 times for 766 yards and 12 touchdowns. Pacing Butler County on the ground, Lonnie Phelps has rushed 44 times for 216 yards and two touchdowns.

In addition to the leading rusher, Butler County's rushing attack features Beasley, Joiner and Garrett Phelps.

Butler County is scheduled to host longtime rival Ohio County for a season finale on Friday, Oct. 27. Kickoff for the Butler County-Ohio County football game is set for 7 p.m.
