Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

With long summer days quickly approaching, many parents and grandparents may wonder where to take the family for a day of fun. If children are involved, finding close-to-home places – minimizing time spent in the car – is a bonus. If you are looking for a fun, family activity, you might consider an attraction in our area.
Starting at home, a relaxing day in Morgantown might include a stop at our public library. My youngest daughter recently took her daughter to get a library card, and my granddaughter was thrilled. As many of you know, the library has story hour for younger children on Tuesdays at 10 AM. During the second week in June, the theme for children’s activities will be ‘Dig into Reading.’ These activities are all scheduled for 1 PM:
•    June 10 – Magic Show
•    June 11 – Book Bingo
•    June 12 – We Dig Duct Tape
•    June 13 – Movie Day
•    June 14 – Pet Rocks
•    June 15 – Animal Tales
Another stop in Morgantown might include the city park for some outdoor fun – maybe the swimming pool. If you don’t want to picnic in the park, you could visit one of our town’s restaurants or the Sno Shack.

For some family fun in our region, you might visit one of these attractions:
•    Beech Bend Park and Splash Lagoon, Bowling Green (http://www.beechbend.com/)
•    Chaney’s Dairy Barn, Bowling Green (http://www.chaneysdairybarn.com/)
•    Dinosaur World, Cave City (http://www.dinosaurworld.com/dinosaur_world_cave_city_kentucky/)
•    Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari, Santa Claus, IN (http://www.holidayworld.com/)
•    Jackson’s Orchard, Bowling Green (http://www.jacksonsorchard.com/)
•    Kentucky Down Under, Horse Cave (http://kdu.com/)

•    Russell Sims Aquatic Center, Bowling Green (http://www.bgky.org/bgpr/aquatics/)
•    The Louisville or Nashville Zoo (http://www.louisvillezoo.org/ or http://www.nashvillezoo.org/)

I hope to visit many of these places with my family this summer. Certainly other family fun attractions are available in our region. If you are aware of additional entertaining events or locations, please use the comment section below to share that information.
