Patty Craig: A Slice of Time
I’ve been reminded once again that life can change very quickly. My sister-in-law Jeannie Craig Grace passed away at the Medical Center on September 5. She was my late husband’s sister and my brother Eddie’s wife. Death comes to each of us, and it often comes unexpectedly. Psalm 139 is a reminder that God has a plan for our lives.
Psalm 139:5 (NIV) says: “You hem me in – behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.” God surrounds us and blesses us. “Hem me in” reminds me that God knows me as only He can. I am also aware that God has laid His hand upon me, providing healing, protection and blessings throughout my life.
Psalm 139:14 (NIV) says: “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” God knows us as only our Maker can. Thinking of the complex structure of the human body as well as the world in which we live, I am amazed. God is an all-knowing, all-powerful planner, whose “works are wonderful.”
Psalm 139: 16 (NIV) says: “…your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” Before we were created, God numbered our days. And God has purpose for our lives. When we do whatever we were created to do, we find fulfillment and contentment.
Mother Teresa said, “Death is nothing else but going home to God, the bond of love will be unbroken for all eternity.” Jeannie had a big family and many friends; she was loved. Having known her since she was 13, I will remember how well she embraced life. Rest in peace, Jeannie.
