Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

I’ve been seeing fall decorations around our town. I like seeing flowers, pumpkins, gourds, straw and other items from nature used as fall decorations. Some of the man-made decorations are very attractive as well. Some things could even be used year after year – a bonus.

Thinking about the many ways to decorate, I asked friends and family: “Autumn has arrived! Do you set out/put up fall decorations or change wreaths, colors, and/or décor around your home? If so, what do you do?” Their responses are listed below:

-I wish I were a decorator. I love seeing everyone’s decorations, but I never decorate myself. If I had unlimited funds, I would pay someone to decorate for me.

-Before anything, I change out candles! I’m not a big fall decorator really. I’m more of a Christmas decorator!

-My husband and the kids love to decorate for Halloween. Inside they put up orange lights and decorate with skulls and skeletons, pumpkins, crows, etc. Outside we have a large skeleton hanging from a tree, a little fake cemetery, and skeletal flamingos in the yard.

-I do outdoors only. Fall wreath and two large mums. I’d put pumpkins out if I had some free ones.

-I enjoy the fall season and usually start with Halloween decorations the first of October until the beginning of November and then switch to just fall themed through Thanksgiving. I enjoy the cute Halloween themed decorations so I like to give them their own season.

-Yes! For Halloween first, then fall. Then Christmas! So far, I’ve decorated my front porch.

-I don’t decorate for anything but Christmas.

-The only thing I do is light some fall candles in my rooms.

-Yes! I decorate my front porch with pumpkins, mums, and gourds. I change to a fall wreath, add an orange blanket to the rocking chair, and put other fall outdoor items on my porch. I like to place fall décor on my fireplace mantle. I also change my dining room table centerpiece and put fall place settings on the table. I like decorating for fall as much as for Christmas. The weather feels good – it’s just a great time of year!

- Fall being my favorite season, I like candles and all things fall. Our tradition has become a cook out and a hay ride. I decorate with skeletons, ghosts, and of course mums.

-I’m so ready for a change of decorations in the house. Fall colors are beautiful. Funny Halloween decorations? The grandkids love it. I don’t mind outside temperatures being lower. I love wearing sweat shirts. I just dread what’s coming next – long, cold winter days.

-Yes, maybe.

-I love decorating for fall. I put up outside and inside decorations. My favorite time, except for Christmas!

-I normally put up fall wreaths on my doors and hang up fall flags on my flag poles. I also buy mums and pumpkins and decorate outside. I sometimes put up some Halloween and fall decorations inside and outside, too.

Rusty Fischer said, “Autumn leaves are falling, filling up the streets; golden colors on the lawn, nature’s trick or treat!” I love the fall colors and seeing outdoor decorations. I’m thinking lawn gazing might be worth a lazy afternoon’s drive.
