Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

This year, Super Bowl Sunday is February 12th. The game will be played at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Super Bowl Sunday has many traditions: the pre-game show, the snacks and food before and during the game, the coin toss, the half-time show, the Gatorade color that’s dumped on the winning coach (a betting opportunity), the post-game interviews, and the commercial spots throughout the game. Some of these traditions are more entertaining than others.

Wondering what people like about Super Bowl Sunday, I asked friends and family: “What do you like best about Super Bowl Sunday and why?” Their responses are listed below.

-I like the commercials and the food, especially the appetizers.

-The food!

-Unlike many women, I like football. I like getting together with fellow fans to watch the game, eat unhealthy food, and sharing stories of previous get-together memories.

-Getting together with friends and good food!

-Friends and food!

-I’m not a huge football fan, so the best part of Super Bowl Sunday to me is that people get together and have a good time with each other: the food, the fun, and the memories made.

-It’s like a football game x 10 – everything is amped up. It’s the biggest sports competition in the world, and nothing else matters for four hours. I like the hype, the competition, just the fun of it all!

-I like how excited Dad gets. I don’t really have an interest in it, but Dad does, and I like seeing him like that.

-I’ve always enjoyed the commercials of the super bowl, but they’ve gone downhill in the last few years.

-We never watch.

-Getting together with friends! It’s one of the few times my husband and I get out of the house, and usually we go over to a friend’s house. And the commercials! It’s also one of the few times we don’t skip over the commercials.

-Football is kind of like the lyrics of “The War Song.” What is it good for?

-I’m not a football fan.

-I enjoy getting together with friends and the good food.

-Commercials. And sometimes the half-time show. Not a football fan.

-Dip and friends! I don’t care about football, but I love Super Bowl parties.

-I’m not a big football fan! I’ve rarely watched the Super Bowl, especially during the last 25 years or so.

-Nothing.

-Commercials, fellowship, and food!

-We enjoy gathering with friends and all the good food.

The Super Bowl game attracts many viewers. Wikipedia said, “…the Super Bowl is the most watched television broadcast in the United States every year.” I think Super Bowl Sunday is popular because it provides good entertainment in many ways.
