Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

As we move toward the end of August, I’ve been enjoying summer activities and working around my house and yard. I’ve noticed that I don’t mind some tasks, but other things I dread or procrastinate doing. I don’t know why; the task difficulty doesn’t seem to be the determining factor.

Wondering how others felt about tasks or chores around the home, I asked friends and family: “What chores or tasks around the home do you dread or tend to procrastinate doing?” Their responses are listed below:

-The laundry.

-Mowing the yard because of my allergies.

-Weed eating fence line.

-Cleaning toilets, bathtub, and laundry.

-Dusting!

-Bathrooms! I hate cleaning toilets, tubs, and showers.

-Laundry! I hate it.

-Dishes, laundry, and dusting.

-Anything bathroom related!

-Folding and putting away laundry.

-Basically, I prefer to work outside. And I do not like to dust.

-Dusting!

-Hanging up clothes from the dryer.

-Emptying the dishwasher.

-Cleaning mini blinds! Also, moving out my dryer and refrigerator yearly to clean them and the tight spots they are in.

-Laundry!

-Washing dishes and utensils and mopping.

-General cleaning in the basement because it’s easy to put off since no one sees it much, cleaning my car (inside and out), cleaning out the refrigerator and closets. Also, taxes – every year!

-Anything to do with outside chores involving heat. I hate those!

-Unfortunately, I procrastinate with every chore and task nowadays. Dusting may be the worst though.

-All of them.

-Deep cleaning. Windows, closets, cabinets, etc.

-The worst chore to me is hanging up clothes when I get them out of the dryer.

Mason Cooley said, “Procrastination makes easy things hard, hard things harder.” He is probably right about that. As long as I have health, I want to take care of my home. Yet, I may procrastinate – just a bit – when it is time to pull weeds, to put away clean laundry, or whatever needs doing. But don’t worry – I’ll get to it the next day.
