Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

Evening TV programming has been changing. As I’ve previously confessed, this is the time of year that I watch more TV than normal, trying to choose favorites for the season. Until I decide, I may record one while watching another. Have you chosen the fall television shows that you plan to watch?

NBC provides good sports coverage, and the Friday night Dateline NBC will be a good program. FOX’s Bones is returning. It’s generally a good mystery. The new FOX shows, The Mob Doctor and The Mindy Project, look entertaining – and maybe a bit predictable.

ABC has several entertaining shows. Grey’s Anatomy, Revenge and Scandal are all back. Sometimes they’re a little too bizarre for me, but the plots and the characters are well-developed. On Castle this season, Castle and Becket have become a couple (I hope that doesn’t detract from fighting crime.). The network has two new shows scheduled that might be diverting: Nashville and Last Resort. I’m not sure either will make my must-see list, but both have unique settings and story lines. Then, 20/20 is always entertaining. And, Body of Proof is scheduled to be back early in 2013.

CBS has several engaging programs. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Criminal Minds, CSI: NY and 60 Minutes are always good shows with intriguing stories. Two other good shows are The Mentalist and Person of Interest. My favorite programs last year were NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Blue Bloods, and The Good Wife. NCIS has been my must-see program for years. The characters and the continuing story line combined with each episode’s mystery have me hooked. Both Blue Bloods and The Good Wife are well-written with a touch of mystery; they’re on my favorites list, too. CBS also has three new promising shows: Elementary, Made in Jersey, and Vegas.

Finally, HGTV has been my standby channel for years. I enjoy HGTV programming day or night. A few of my favorites are: Designed to Sell, Holmes on Homes, House Hunters, Love It or List It, Property Brothers, and Property Virgins. Each is entertaining.

Soon the television schedule will settle into a pattern, and we’ll have identified our watch-if-I- can lists. But, for the next couple of weeks at my house, most evening time slots are up for grabs.
