Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

Recently ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, The CW, and other networks have updated their fall-winter program schedules. Some new programs have been included as well as many programs that were previously available. Although I don’t watch television every night, I do watch some programs – or record and watch later.

Thinking about the way we watch television, I asked friends and family: “The new TV programming schedule has begun. Do you have a favorite program this fall? Also, do you use cable/satellite service or do you use online streaming networks (Netflix, Hulu, etc.) to watch programs?” The responses are listed below.

-I didn’t know there was ever a new TV schedule. We don’t have satellite TV anymore – just stream Netflix and Hulu. Most everyone I know streams, including my mom and dad.

-We use online streaming networks.

-Yellowstone (Direct TV). But we do have and use Netflix and Amazon Prime on occasion.

-Roku and I haven’t noticed a new schedule. We’re impatiently waiting for Yellowstone.

-We use Netflix and Hulu, and I love the holiday baking shows!

-We use Netflix, Hulu, and Peacock. I watch The Resident, Chicago P.D., Chicago Fire, and Chicago Med.

-I don’t watch much TV at all. I have Netflix, Hulu, and Disney though. I’m not sure why I have so many when I don’t use them.

-I use DISH. I watch a variety, including HGTV, GAC, all three Hallmark channels, inspirational channels, and DIY programs. It just depends on what’s on and the mood I’m in!

-The only regular TV I watch is David Muir news and Grey’s Anatomy. We don’t use cable; we use an antenna. The rest is streaming: Netflix, Amazon Prime, Brit Box, and Acorn.

-We follow the Chicago shows: Chicago P.D., Chicago Fire, and Chicago Med. We don’t watch a lot of current TV because some programs are too graphic for us. We use Direct TV and stream Hulu, Netflix, and Paramount Plus. We mainly stream Hulu and Paramount Plus for network TV shows. Direct does not allow us to get any networks, and I cut back to the smallest package available. Although we all share the benefits of streaming, different family members pay for the different services. We get HBO free through our AT&T phone plan.

-I use streaming networks!

-Well, NCIS is my favorite program. I have satellite and streaming services.

-We stream our programs. On Netflix, I plan to watch Maid. On Hulu, I want to watch Nine Perfect Strangers (because I read the book), Big Sky-season 2, Dopesick, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Only Murders in the Building. And on Amazon Prime, I hope to watch the documentary My Name is Pauli Murray, Goliath (the final season), and Bosch (6th and last season).

I don’t have a favorite program yet – same old series. We have Netflix and Prime – nothing exciting about them.

Like much in the world, the way we watch television has changed. People don’t just depend on the networks to provide scheduled nightly entertainment; more and more, they seek out specific programs through streaming services. Regardless of how we watch, television remains a popular entertainment.
