Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

Summertime has slipped away. Author Kellie Elmore said, “Some of the best memories are made in flip flops.” And in “Summertime,” Kenny Chesney sang, “It's a smile, it's a kiss. It's a sip of wine, it's summertime. Sweet summertime.” Though I love spring and fall, summer is my favorite season.

Thinking about the seasonal change and approach of fall, I asked friends and family: “Autumn or fall begins September 22. What will you miss about summer?” Their responses are listed below.

-I will miss swimming, flip flops, and it staying daylight so long in the evenings.

-Mowing. Just kidding. I will miss the warm and sometimes hot weather – better than cold. Things go smoother in warm weather.

-I will miss it being daylight longer in the afternoons.

-I will miss the daylight into the evening.

-Longer days!

-Swimming every day.

-Doing things with my kids.

-Pool days with my kiddos, family and friends.

-The beautiful greenery, flowers in bloom, homegrown tomatoes, vegetables, and fruit!

-Long days (as in daylight).

-I can’t think of a thing. Bring on the fire pit weather!

-Later sunsets, no bed times for children, and fresh garden vegetables.

-The extended daylight.

-Swimming. Definitely my favorite way to exercise.

-Longer days. I love almost everything about fall, but hate shorter days.

-The long daylight hours.

-I just don’t know.

-The green grass and leaves on trees.

-The beautiful warm weather!

-Not much. Fall is my favorite.

-Watermelon, cantaloupe, homegrown tomatoes, and corn on the cob!

-I just like the pretty weather and being able to go outside whenever I want. You are free to do a lot of different things in the summertime. I will miss my flowers, but I won’t have to water them either. My favorite season is spring, and I like summer. Fall is a pretty season, but I know we’re going toward winter when fall comes. I used to like horseback riding in the fall; the horses didn’t get as hot, and the foliage was so pretty.

-Daylight until 9 or later. Otherwise, I won’t miss heat, humidity, or mosquitoes.

-Swimming and the boys off from school.

-I will miss the long days of summer. Being able to be outside in the sunshine always makes me feel better.

Actor and comedian Jack McBrayer said, “I love summertime more than anything else in the world. That is the only thing that gets me through the winter, knowing that summer is going to be there.” I, too, love summer living, but I also appreciate seasonal changes. I will miss the longer days, warm weather and fresh foods of summer, but am looking forward to a colorful fall.
