Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

Douglas Adams said, “I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.” Some of life’s important events include weddings, graduations, and births. Important events may also include tragedies. Both the good and the bad affect us. Recently, I’ve been thinking about my life, dwelling on the happy moments.
I asked friends and family what little things in life make them happy. Those who answered were both male and female, ranging in age from 12 to 70 something. Their responses are below:
•    Pictures of grandchildren playing
•    Watching family open Christmas presents
•    My mother’s smile when I talk to her
•    A nice, quiet evening
•    Knowing that all my family is there for me if I need them
•    A kind word or gesture
•    Knowing that Jesus and the Holy Ghost are ready to comfort me
•    The sun rising on a mid-summer’s day
•    Listening to the laughter of grandchildren
•    Taking a day off and staying in pajamas – not doing anything important
•    Feeling content and happy with life
•    Seeing a dream come true
•    Watching a good movie
•    Hitting snooze
•    Snuggling with a baby
•    Finding a bargain
•    Being with those I love – a piece of heaven on earth
•    Seeing an elderly couple holding hands
•    Puppies, sunshine, and family
•    Electricity and water
•    My child’s smile, reading a good book, and sleeping
•    Being the dependable one for my children – and even strangers
•    Hugs and seeing old friends
•    Beautiful flowers, butterflies, colorful birds, and sunsets
•    An early morning cup of coffee, a shower and some time to relax in prayer and Bible study
•    Giving someone a gift that they really wanted or surprising someone with something nice
•    Someone letting me out or by in traffic
•    When piecing a quilt block, all the points match perfectly
•    Getting out of a meeting early
•    A good meal with family
•    A motorcycle ride
•    Being able to hear someone’s smile by the tone of voice on the phone
•    Hot chocolate, a pedicure, and pictures of family and friends
•    Finding money in a coat pocket or an old purse/billfold
Someone said, “Being happy doesn’t mean everything is perfect. It means you have decided to look beyond the imperfections.” Although we all have daily frustrations, we can usually find something to make us happy.
