Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

Lately, I’ve been listening to Christmas music. I’ve noticed that much of it is upbeat, and I find myself singing along – at least with the choruses. Because I like so many Christmas songs, I have a hard time choosing a favorite.

Thinking about favorites, I asked friends and family: “What is your favorite Christmas song?” Their responses are below.

-I love them all! The ones about Jesus’ birth are the best though.

-“Beautiful Star of Bethlehem” and “White Christmas,” if Bing Crosby is singing. It’s hard to choose because I love Christmas songs!

-I have several, but “Up on the Housetop” is one of them. My mom always used to sing it when I was growing up. Another is “Mary, Did You Know?”

-“Go Tell It on the Mountain” probably. But I love so many.

-“Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” by Darlene Love.

-There are many. My favorites are “We Three Kings,” “Silent Night,” and “O Holy Night.”

-“Mary, Did You Know?”

-I like a variety, but Nat King Cole songs usually.

-“O Holy Night” is probably my favorite. I like a lot though. “What Child Is This” is another, but I really love them all.

-“Mary, Did You Know?”

-I like them all. “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem” is one favorite.

-“O Holy Night.”

-“O Holy Night.”

-“All I Want for Christmas” by Mariah Carey.

-“Jingle Bell Rock.”

-I like too many! In “O holy Night,” I love this part: “Til He appeared and the soul felt its worth.” In “What Child Is This,” I love: “The king of kings salvation brings, let loving hearts enthrone him, this, this is Christ the king.”

-“Mary, Did You Know?”

-“Carol of the Bells.”

-“The Little Drummer Boy.”

-“Where Are You, Christmas?” from The Grinch.

-“My Grown Up Christmas List.”

-“O Holy Night.”

Although I enjoy all of the Christmas songs mentioned above - as well as many others, I have a favorite: "Mary, Did You Know?" One stanza says:

“Mary, did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy would one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your baby boy is Heaven's perfect Lamb?
That sleeping child you're holding is the great I am” (http://www.songlyrics.com/mary-did-you-know/mary-did-you-know-lyrics/).

Jesus was the great “I am.” So, “Joy to the world, the Lord is come!” (“Joy to the World”). And we still have time to enjoy more Christmas music!
