Patty Craig; A Slice Of Time
During the past six months, we’ve all stayed home more than normal. I heard a discussion on television last week about how spending more time at home has resulted in many remodeling/updating projects. I’ve spent quite a bit of time in four areas located inside and outside my house: the dining room, the living room, the sunporch, and the deck or patio. These areas all allow me to sit and do something. They’re my favorite areas of my home.
Wondering about the thoughts of others, I asked friends and family, “What is your favorite area inside or outside of your house and why?” Their responses are listed below.
-Inside, on the couch! It’s close to the TV and air conditioner!
-My favorite spot in my house is the sunroom. I do remote learning there, and I like the natural light in that room.
-My favorite part of the house is my bedroom balcony. It’s in the back of the house so no one can see me in my robe. I love to sit out there in my glider with my morning coffee and at sunset, too, reading the news, doing my devotionals, or listening to audio books.
-My favorite area is the pond behind the house because I like to fish.
-Family room: it’s where I get to visit with my family and friends and make memories.
-Used to be our bedroom – my peaceful, comforting area in our house. Now, in our present situation, I’d have to say my small garden. Being able to be outside and work in a garden gives me peace. Why? I haven’t a clue.
-My sunroom inside. Year round big view of the back. I love my morning coffee out there and weekend shanghai rummy cards with girlfriends.
-Outside on my roofed porch. If any air is moving, I always have a breeze. Also, inside in my living room in my chair with a glass of tea – either reading or watching TV. I’m always there in the evening when my day of work is over and it’s time to relax before bed.
-Front porch. I watch the world go by.
-My favorite area outside is the exact point where all four (my three brothers and myself) of our properties meet. That one tiny intersection is a physical representation of an intrinsic emotional bond we all cherish deeply.
-Outside. I love watching the boys play and ride their dirt bikes outside.
-The garage. Motorcycles to ride and work on and clean.
-Front porch. I can see God’s handiwork.
-At my Dad’s house, my favorite room is my bedroom because I’ve personalized it. With my Mom, my favorite room is the dining room because we have family lunches there.
Families.com stated, “A home can be defined in many ways. It’s a residence, a family dwelling place, and often times a refuge from the outside world” (https://www.families.com/what-does-home-mean-to-you). As my family and friends have testified, just about any area can become a favorite spot. And that spot is our refuge – where we’re safe and comfortable.
