Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

Having celebrated a birthday recently has me thinking about aging. One of my friends has said, “People talk about the golden years, but they’re not golden – they’re rusty.” People differ in the way they view aging.

The following quotes (https://www.brainyquote.com/topics/old-age-quotes) show some of people’s thoughts about aging:

-All diseases run into one, old age. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

-Old age is like everything else. To make a success of it, you’ve got to start young. ~Theodore Roosevelt

-Old age is just a record of one’s whole life. ~Muhammad Ali

-Old age: the crown of life, our play’s last act. ~Marcus Tullius Cicero

-It is not well to make great changes in old age. ~Charles Spurgeon

-Scripture is filled with examples of men and women whom God used late in life, often with great impact – men and women who refused to use old age as an excuse to ignore what God wanted them to do. ~Billy Graham

-Old age is no place for sissies. ~Bette Davis

-Old age is like a plane flying through a storm. Once you’re aboard, there’s nothing you can do. ~Golda Meir

-I’ve been screaming at the top of my lungs at my family, “Work out! Work out! Old age is coming!” ~Cher

-To me, old age is always fifteen years older than I am. ~Bernard Baruch

-In youth we run into difficulties. In old age difficulties run into us. ~Josh Billings

-Old age is the most unexpected of all the things that can happen to a man. ~James Thurber

-One of the many pleasures of old age is giving things up. ~Malcolm Muggeridge

-In youth, the days are short and the years are long. In old age, the years are short and days long. ~Pope Paul VI

-Old age isn’t so bad when you consider the alternative. ~Maurice Chevalier

-The exhaustion of old age is something people who are younger don’t fully appreciate. ~Tony Benn

-Old age is the verdict of life. ~Amelia Barr

-Why do people talk of the horrors of old age? It’s great. I feel like a fine old car with the parts gradually wearing out, but I’m not complaining…. Those who find growing old terrible are people who haven’t done what they wanted with their lives. ~Martha Gellhorn

-I’ve been very happy and I have a happy old age with good family and friends still around. ~Maeve Binchy

-The greatest problem about old age is the fear that it may go on too long. ~A. J. P. Taylor

Stella Young said, “I tend not to think about living to some grand old age. Then again, I don’t think about dying, either” (https://www.brainyquote.com/topics/old-age-quotes). Since aging is natural, I don’t often think about old age or dying. Nonetheless, I am thankful for each day.
