Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

The fall primetime television schedule has begun, and this week my DVR is in high demand. After all, I’ll need to know which programs are better choices for me. Sometimes an old favorite may be replaced by a new choice: television viewing evolves.

Many changes have been made to programming again this fall. According to TV Guide, the new programs on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and The CW will begin airing this week and continue to debut into October. The new programs include:

•Mondays: The Neighborhood, Happy Together, Magnum P.I., and Manifest.

•Tuesdays: The Conners, The Kids Are Alright, The Rookie, FBI, and New Amsterdam.

•Wednesdays: Single Parents, A Million Little Things, and All American.

•Thursdays: Murphy Brown, I Feel Bad, and Legacies.

•Fridays: The Cool Kids.

•Saturdays: No new programming listed.

•Sundays: Dancing with the Stars: Juniors, The Alec Baldwin Show, God Friended Me, Rel, and Charmed (Volume 66, Number 36, Issue #3451-3452, p. 46).

I want to view Magnum P.I. (a reboot of an old show), Manifest, New Amsterdam, The Rookie, and A Million Little Things.

Of course, most programming is not new. Some of my favorite returning programs are: Bull, NCIS, NCIS Los Angeles, NCIS New Orleans, Blue Bloods, Seal Team, Madam Secretary, and Grey’s Anatomy. Some other good returning programs include: MacGyver, Hawaii Five-O, The Good Doctor, Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. Most of these programs have good character development and interesting plots.

Additionally, HGTV and Hallmark programming are often my viewing choice. Their programs are family-friendly as well as entertaining. I often have HGTV playing during the day and a Hallmark movie in the early evening.

Television is not just entertaining; it is also informative. Michelle Obama said, “For so many people, television and movies may be the only way they understand people who aren’t like them” and Joe Biden said, “When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the princes of greed, He said, ‘Look, here’s what happened’ (https://www.brainyquote.com/topics/television). Whether entertaining or informative, our TV selections are personal choices. So, choose well and enjoy!
