Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

Many in my generation grew up with adults talking about when to plant and when to do other tasks based on Farmer’s Almanac advice. I don’t really understand how the predictions are made, but I respect them. I remember – many, many years ago – asking a church member when I should potty train one of our children. I don’t know whether following the Farmer’s Almanac advice helped, but it made me feel more confident.

The Farmer’s Almanac best days was explained online:

“According to Farmers’ Almanac's long-standing proprietary formula, when the moon is in the appropriate phase and place in the zodiac, it's widely believed that activities will be more fruitful or lead to improved results. The period between the new and full moon (first and second quarters) is considered as the best time to perform tasks that require strength, fertility and growth. The period between the full and new moon (third and fourth quarters) is best for harvesting, slowing growth, etc. Consideration is also given to the relationship the moon has with the 12 ruling signs of the zodiac” (https://www.farmersalmanac.com/calendar/best-days/#explanation).

The online site (https://www.farmersalmanac.com/calendar/best-days/) also includes best-day information. The following was for the remainder of August:

The website includes a list of Best Days information for 60 days at a time.

If there were a better time to perform a task, it would make sense to schedule the task – if possible – on that date. According to Ecclesiastes 3:1, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven” (KJV). Nevertheless, I am respectful, but a little skeptical, of the Farmers' Almanac best days.
