Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

In the past week, four random thoughts have been on my mind. Although each is in some way related to the time of year, they are unconnected. Perhaps many of you have had similar thoughts.

For me, cooler weather usually means some service calls. When the weather cools down, it’s time to turn on the heat, and I like to have the heating unit serviced beforehand. I also typically schedule an exterminator: my old house and the garage tend to welcome spiders. And my dad taught me to have my car serviced before freezing weather – a precautionary measure. So, service calls are on my radar.

Last week, I received a complimentary copy of Decision, a special edition of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (volume 57, number 9: September 2016). This issue contains articles about the presidential election, the impact this election may have on the Supreme Court, as well as the state of our religious freedom. This information should help the magazine’s readers become better informed voters. I’m hoping the information will help me to be comfortable with my presidential vote decision.

In November of 2011, my family physician recommended that I increase my activity and eat in a healthier manner. He was advising me to fight obesity – I had fought weight gain for the previous couple of decades, but was losing the battle. I have followed his recommendations and have slowly become healthier.  Of course, my weight has fluctuated, and I normally gain during the winter months. In recent months, I have walked almost daily and finally have reached my physician’s 2011 weight recommendation (This has happened over a five-year period.). But, this journey hasn’t ended. My focus now becomes to maintain my weight loss and to continue to make healthy choices – still not easy.

Finally, on Thursday, October 13, between 4 and 7 p.m., a craft sale party will be held at the Butler County Education Complex. The crafts include such things as jewelry, homemade and rustic home décor, and other homemade crafts. Please come and enjoy refreshments with us while you browse. The local crafters scheduled to be there will appreciate your support.

In some way, each of these random thoughts will make its way to my to-do list. Many of you may have similar plans. After all, random thoughts often lead to tomorrow’s activities.
