Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

Next weekend is Labor Day weekend and unofficially marks the end of summer. Even though it’s a reminder that my favorite season is drawing to a close, I’m not grieving. The weather is still nice, and I plan to enjoy it.

Labor Day weekend is popular for several reasons. It provides the opportunity to take one more summer trip or have one more summer party. If the weather is clear, many will spend much of the time outdoors. Some may decide to work on that project that’s still waiting or to catch up on work around the house. Several will spend time with friends and family, while others catch up on much needed rest. Traditionally, this weekend has also been a time to take advantage of the many sales that are or will be advertised – one of the largest sale dates of the year (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labor_Day). Labor Day weekend is a great time to take advantage of time off and temperate weather.

I asked friends and family to tell me one thing they want to do during Labor Day weekend. Their responses are below:
•    Hunt doves.
•    Sleep in!
•    Relax rather than use that down time to complete other things that I haven’t had time to do yet.
•    Nothing! I would love a three-day weekend where I didn’t have to go anywhere or do anything.
•    Spend time with family!
•    Rest. But, I’m not counting on it.
•    Grill and have the kiddos over.
•    Rest.
•    Sleep late, clean, and stay in my pajamas until time to get ready for the dove shoot cookout. Then get ready and go feast on their hard work. Love Labor Day!
•    Spend a sunny day with family eating delicious food that someone else prepared.
•    Have a short period of time when I have no thoughts of stress, a no-stress zone. I want an adult time-out from stress.

I plan to enjoy some time with family and friends and “watch the world go by.” As James P. Hoffa said, “Labor Day is … a day of rest for many hardworking Americans.” But, on a more entertaining note, Lewis Black said, “I believe that summer is our time, a time for the people, and that no politician should be allowed to speak to us during the summer. They can start talking again after Labor Day” (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/keywords/labor_day.html#RX5I6kYmDBAsJD...). Wishing you a safe and peaceful Labor Day weekend.
