Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

As the seasons change, each brings a few items for my to-do list. The fall season has reminded me of three things I want to do regarding my health, my surroundings, and my leisure time.

Recently, I got a flu shot. This reminded me of other medical “should-do-but-have-not-done” items. I realized that I have been acting like the hare (in the story The Tortoise and the Hare) and am losing the race. Since my medical insurance may bring benefit changes in the coming year, I decided to schedule a few things now: blood tests, a medical procedure, and a couple of exams, including an eye exam. I haven’t yet checked to see that my vaccinations are all up to date (I’ve read that some boosters are recommended.). Like many of you, I don’t want to spend time on these things; but, I realize their importance in maintaining good health.

Second, I want to get some outside work done. Generally, this is an ongoing process. Thankfully, my son-in-law keeps my lawn cut, and my grandsons help with other yard issues. My current to-do list includes trimming bushes, transplanting some plants, and washing my outdoor furniture, deck and patio. Hopefully, these things will be done in the next couple of weeks – with my grandsons’ help.

Finally, as fall TV programs premiere, I enjoy choosing programs for my watch-if-I-can list. I’ve read that about 30% of this season’s programming is new. I plan to check the following new programs:
•    NBC: The Blacklist, Ironside
•    CBS: Hostages
•    ABC: Lucky 7, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Trophy Wife
•    Other: Reign (CW)
Some returning program favorites include: The Biggest Loser, Blue Bloods, Bones, Castle, Criminal Minds, The Good Wife, The Mentalist, Nashville, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Person of Interest, Revenge, and Scandal. In a couple of weeks, my TV viewing will likely settle into a predictable pattern.

Fall brings change. Tori Amos said, “... you’ve gotta know when it’s time to turn the page.” I think I’ll get busy and get these things finished.
