Our Old Kentucky Home: Hispanic/Latin American Visual Art in the Commonwealth

At the Butler County Arts Guild thirty-six colorful pieces adorn the walls, each shining with individuality from their spot in the gallery. The pieces are the work from twenty Hispanic and Latin American Kentuckians.  This traveling exhibition titled, “Our Old Kentucky Home” is the latest to be on display at the guild.

Despite your art preference there’s something for all.  Mixed media pieces adorned with fabrics, feathers, leaves, and other items come to life from the canvases.  Photographs, paintings, and sculptures all are available for enjoyment of the eyes as well.  Each piece wonderfully meshes the Hispanic and Latin cultures with their Kentucky living.

Our community is home to several Hispanic and Latin Americans, and it is wonderful that this exhibit is celebrating art made by these Kentuckians.  This exhibit has been traveling through various regions of Kentucky since November 2021 and will continue to travel to other galleries until October 2022.  Currently our local guild with have the exhibit on display throughout the month of May on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.

The Butler County Arts Guild is a fantastic place to take children of all ages to visit the various types of art work on display because it encourages them to tap into their internal artistic urges and create themselves.  The first thing our youngest daughter did once coming home was to run and get her drawing pad and markers to begin creating.  She was very excited by the pieces she had seen and wanted to “do what they did”.  With people always looking for things to do in Morgantown, this is something to visit that the whole family will appreciate.

If you would like to become active with the Butler County Arts Guild, they have meetings on the last Tuesday of every month at 6 pm and they encourage every one to attend whether you are an artist or not… they could use your help!
