Officers respond to gunshots in city limits; ends with pursuit, arrest

What began with an officer hearing gunshots, resulted in a high-speed pursuit and arrest.

On July 9 at around 2 a.m., Morgantown Police officers responded to a "shots fired" call at Oak Hill Apartments.  According to a department statement, an officer was conducting routine patrol when the shots were heard and he reported it himself.  

As an officer arrived at the scene, he observed a white Jeep Cherokee leaving.  The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the suspect fled at a high rate of speed.  The pursuit ended on Russellville Road.  Deputies with the Butler County Sheriff's Department assisted.    

Eric Amburgey, the driver of the vehicle, was taken into custody without further incident. He was in possession of a handgun and a yet undetermined amount of marijuana.  It was later determined by MPD officers on scene that Amburgey fired at least 12 rounds into the air at Oak Hill Apartments.

Amburgey was charged with the following and lodged in the Butler County Jail:

 Wanton Endangerment- 1st Degree; Fleeing or Evading Police, 1st Degree (motor vehicle); Wanton Endangerment- 1st Degree- police officer; Speeding-26 mph or  more above the speed limit; Possession of Marijuana;  Possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle.
