NOT-SO-SUPER SATURDAY: Five fires, wreck, and meth arrest

Fifth District fireman Richard Henderson helps put out the fire on Oak Ridge Road.

Saturday, July 21, got off to a busy start for local firemen, emergency personnel, and law enforcement officers as fires, a wreck, and one meth arrest were reported.

An abandoned house on Oak Ridge Road (about 1.5 miles past Oak Ridge Baptist Church) was reported around 1 a.m. Saturday morning.  The structure, which kindled back up later in the morning, was fully involved by the time firemen arrived.  It was a total loss.  Firemen with the Fifth District, Fourth District and Morgantown Departments all responded.  The scene was cleared by around 3 a.m.

Also on Oak Ridge Road, firemen responded to a brush fire on the Dillon Bryant farm early this morning.  It was quickly brought under control.

At around 6:25 a.m. this morning, firefighters responded to another fire at an abandoned house - this time on Dunbar-Coal Road.  Firemen with the Second, Third, and Morgantown Departments responded. The structure was destroyed.

Later in the day at around 12:30 p.m. firemen were called to reports of a fire at a residence on Andrew Circle Road (off KY 185).  Morgantown, Fourth and Fifth District Departments all responded.  Initial reports indicated smoke coming from the home.  Butler County EMS was also dispatched.  No injuries were reported.

Meanwhile, a wreck involving two large pick-ups on U.S. 231/Bowling Green Road near Hood Road took place at approximately 12:30 p.m.

The accident involved a 2007 Dodge Ram driven by Billy Bryant (DOB 10/3/64) of Morgantown and a Ford F-250 (pulling a trailer with livestock) driven by Shelia Schwindel (DOB 1/7/65) of Bowling Green.

According to Butler County Sheriff's Deputy Trey Flener, both vehicles apparently traveled too close to the centerline resulting in both driver's side mirrors making contact.  Schwindel had her window down allowing glass from the window to come into the vehicle.  She was hit in the eyes, mouth, and face.  Schwindel was transported to the Medical Center at Bowling Green by Butler County EMS.

Finally, following traffic stop and consensual search, Deputy Flener and KSP Trooper Brian McKinney made two arrests earlier this morning on U.S. 231/Bowling Green Road near Jumpin' Jacks.  The search resulted in the discovery of methamphetamine.  Arrested were Lula M. Johnson, 40, (driver) and Christopher M. Rubino (passenger).  Johnson is charged with possession of a controlled substance (first degree, first offense), failure to wear seatbelts, and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs/alcohol.  Rubino, 44, is charged with having a prescription controlled substance not in the original container (first offense) and possession of a controlled substance (third degree, first offense).
