Northside Kennels & Boarding hosts grand opening

Nearly 100 people gathered Friday, June 22 for a grand opening and ribbon-cutting celebration at Northside Kennels and Boarding. Owners James and Brenda Mitchell and Charlie and Christie Tomes recently expanded their business. Eighteen years ago, James and Brenda Mitchell began breeding and selling dogs. Their daughter, Christie, and her husband, Charlie, recently added boarding kennels. Northside Kennels has 13 indoor kennels, as well as some outdoors. Christie Tomes said she has always dreamed of being a business owner and “after researching, I realized Butler County had a need for boarding kennels. People want someone to love and care for their fur babies when they are away from home.” Before the ribbon cutting, Tomes said she wanted to “thank God for how the business has grown so quickly.”

Since opening the boarding kennels for cats and dogs, people have come from all the surrounding counties and even as far as Pikeville and Nashville. Prices are $15 per day Monday through Thursday, $17 per day Friday through Sunday, and $20 on holidays.

Northside Kennels sells Golden Doodles, Aussie Doodles, Beagles, and Yorkies. They will soon have Jack Russells and Bernedoodles.
