Saturday, February 27th NBES hosted 4 schools as part of the 2016 District Governor’s Cup of Kentucky.  Governor’s Cup was founded in 1986 as a way to promote, reward and recognize outstanding academic achievement. Since then, over a quarter of a million students have taken part in the event.  In the Elementary (Grade 5 and below) division, students take part in a District and move on to Regional competition if they finish as Champion or Runner-Up in their respective Districts.  Individual students scoring in top 5 in any categories also move on to Region regardless of team performance.
Muhlenberg South Elementary, Morgantown Elementary, Greenville Elementary and, of course, North Butler Elementary represented the 16th district at the event. 
There are many facets to the event:  5 written assessments (math, science, social studies, language arts and arts and humanities), Composition (On-Demand) writing, future problem solvers (creative thinking) and the head to head bracket formatted Quick Recall.  All areas are calculated and scored to compose the overall scores.
North Butler is coached by Mrs. Megan Miller, Cindy Embry and student teacher Payton Grubb.  Principal Josh Belcher commended the coaches, students, and staff on a great job organizing the event and was blown away by his student’s determination and performance.  He was also grateful to open the doors to such great teams and coaches that helped make the day a success.

North Butler Elementary team will advance to Regional Competition held at Morgantown Elementary on March 12th due to their runner-up District honors.
