New ambulance ready to hit the road

It took a year and a half due to pandemic and supply chain issues, but county officials, ambulance board members and EMS workers would likely say that it has been worth it.

The Butler County Ambulance Service has recently received a new 805 ambulance - a 2023 F450.

According to a recent Facebook post from Butler County EMS, the new ambulance will have a more comfortable ride due to a "liquid spring suspension," and will be safer with a larger cab and more air bags than the one it replaces, the E Series.  EMS officials also have a new logo and design that will soon be incorporated into its branding.

The new ambulance is replacing a 2010 E450 with a 6.0 diesel engine with nearly 300,000 miles on it.  Frequent trips to the nearest hospital have contributed to high mileage on local ambulances.

"For the last 12 years or more, we have been remounting the boxes on a new chassis.  That is more cost effective than buying a whole new ambulance.  The cost of a brand new ambulance can run up to well over $250,000.  The cost of a remount is significantly less," said BC EMS officials, per Facebook.
