MS FOOTBALL: Bears battle Cougars; 7th wins, 8th falls short
One thing that remains consistent with Butler County football, no matter the age, is the support the county shows. The stands were packed on Tuesday, September 17, as the Butler County Middle School Bears faced the McLean County Middle School Cougars.
Quarterback Bo Abbott led the 7th grade squad to a victory over the Cougars, 28-6. Numerous passing and rushing yards were split among JT Gay, Deacon Phelps, Bo Abbot and Declan Phelps. The seventh grade squad remains undefeated and has clinched a spot in the Green River Valley Conference Tournament.
The eighth grade Bears fought hard against the Cougars and quarterback Brody Dockery got the team on the board first with a quarterback keeper. McLean came back and tied the ballgame before halftime, 8-8. Defense was a key component in the second half as the score remained tied down to the last few minutes of the ballgame. The Cougars went on to win 14-8.
