Mr. Harrison's Class Rocks!

“MES Rocks” is this year’s school theme at Morgantown Elementary.  Therefore, when Morgantown resident Kaitlin Harrison heard of a contest being sponsored by The Parent Teacher Store, 100.7 SAM FM, and 105.3 My WOVO, called Classes that Rock,  Kaitlin couldn’t help but think of her husband’s third grade class at Morgantown Elementary.  So, as soon as she made it to her computer, Kaitlin nominated Mr. Marcus Harrison’s Third Grade Class at Morgantown Elementary School as a Class that Rocks!

On Thursday, October 19, radio personalities Tony Rose and Kellie McKay paid a surprise visit to Mr. Harrison’s class at MES and announced that they had been named as one of the three finalists in the “Class that Rocks” contest.  They invited the class to a party in honor of their class and the other two nominees, on Thursday night at The Parent Teacher Store where the Grand Prize winner would be announced.

Mr. Harrison, MES Assistant Principal Chad Flener, seventeen students, and several family members traveled to Bowling Green on Thursday night to represent not only their class but Morgantown Elementary.  The students signed in on their class board where they could write reasons why their class rocks.  The students received treat bags, snacked on pizza, and made crafts while they waited for the announcement of the winner.  After an hour of partying, it was time for the big announcement.  Mr. Harrison and his students were called to the front to be introduced to the large crowd that had gathered in the store.  Then they were asked to show exactly why they should be named the “Class that Rocks”.   After a little huddle and discussion with his students, Mr. Harrison announced that Jordan Todd would show the crowd exactly why their class rocked.  Jordan did a 3 minute break dance routine ending with a spin in the floor surrounded by his classmates.  The crowd erupted in applause followed by chants of “Harrison, Harrison, Harrison”.  Minutes later Mr. Harrison and his third grade class from Morgantown Elementary School were announced as Grand Prize winners.  The class received a gift certificate from The Parent Teacher Store and Mr. Harrison received a gift card to a local restaurant.

Students that attended the event were: Brooklyn Baker, Makayla Hunter, Hannah Gill, Lexa Johnson, Hailey Daniels, Aleace Hall,  Matthew Meredith, Eli Lewis, Angel Rafael-Vargas, Jordan Todd, Blake Newsome, Paul Cameron, Brandon Kimmel, Solomon Flener, Jagger Henderson, Brody Hunt, and Dylan Roberts.

Mr. Harrison rocks! He is a great asset to Morgantown Elementary School. It was great to see that the school that was the furthest away from Bowling Green had the largest number of students to show up at the event. A huge thanks to Mr. Harrison and Mr. Flener for all that they do for our kids.
