MPD: Arrests made in Counterfeit Bills

On Monday, July 27, an Officer with the Morgantown Police Department responded to Scott's Market Gas Station about a counterfeit 100-dollar bill that an individual attempted to use. Later that same day, another call was received from the Marathon Gas Station in referencing two more counterfeit $100 bills used at that business. Through investigation, Jarod Phelps and Kayla Darity were observed on camera using the counterfeit bills at the Marathon Gas Station. Warrants were issued for their arrest through the County Attorney’s office.

On August 7, both individuals were located at the Jim Embry apartments by two officers of the Morgantown Police Department. During the arrests of both Jarod Phelps, age 31 of Butler County, and Kayla Darity, age 27 of Butler County, two more counterfeit $100 bills were found on Jarod Phelps containing the same serial numbers as the two that had been seized for evidence. Both subjects were transported to the Butler County Jail, where the warrants were served along with additional charges for the two counterfeit bills found on Jarod Phelps.
