Motorcycle, car collision claims life

On Friday, May 6, at around 2:14 p.m., a motorcycle and car collided on Willis Road (off Brownsville Road/KY 70E) resulting in a fatality. According to police Cody Alan Smith, 24, of Roundhill, was traveling west on KY 70 on a 2004 Suzuki when he struck a Subaru driven by Janice Costello of Morgantown.  Costello is a rural mail carrier and had placed mail in boxes on the right hand side of the road.  She then turned on to Willis Road to finish her route.  Smith was apparently attempting to pass Costello, tried to stop, and then skidded approximately 120 feet before hitting Costello's vehicle.  Smith was wearing a helmet but did not have a motorcycle license according to law enforcement officials.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.  Responding to the accident were Butler County Sheriff Scottie Ward, members of the Butler County Rescue Squad and Butler County EMS, and Butler County Coroner Marty Jones.
