Mother Dies In Single-Vehicle Accident: Daughter In Hospital

Glenda Daugherty's 2000 Suzuki SUV

UPDATE:  Glenda Daugherty died during surgery last night at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.  Her daughter, was air lifted to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital last night from the Medical Center and is in intensive care.

Two individuals were transported to the hospital tonight following a single-car crash on Eden Stretch.  At approximately 7:20 p.m. a 2000 Suzuki  SUV driven by Glenda Daugherty, 46, of 51 Boys' Camp Road, was traveling north on U.S. 231 when she apparently lost control of her vehicle after possibly swerving to miss a deer.  Daugherty's vehicle glanced off a guardrail, struck a light pole, and then went down a steep ravine.  Daugherty was ejected from the vehicle.  U.S. 231 was closed to traffic in both directions near the 3700 block of Beaver Dam Road for over an hour as emergency workers secured the scene and treated those injured.

Chad Johnson slowly pulls the 2000 Suzuki up the hill.

Chad Johnson of Chad's Body Shop and Wrecker Service in Morgantown had to stretch steel cables a distance over 200 feet and slowly pull the vehicle up and out of the steep depression off the side of the road where the vehicle landed.

Two passengers were in the vehicle - a 10-year-old female juvenile and a male passenger, Terrence Mayhew - both children of Daugherty.  Butler County EMS quickly responded to the scene.  Daugherty was life-flighted to an undisclosed hospital and the female juvenile passenger was taken by EMS to the Medical Center at Bowling Green.  Mayhew was apparently uninjured and refused treatment.

Charles Hatcher assisted Chad Johnson in getting the vehicle up the hill.

U.S. 231 was shut down for over an hour as emergency workers secured the scene.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Brian McKinney is the investigating officer.  Also responding were Butler County Sheriff's Deputies Chris Reneer and Don Jenkins, several members of the Morgantown Volunteer Fire Department, and members of the Butler County Rescue Squad.  A crew with WarrenRECC was also present and worked to stabilize the badly-damaged light pole.

The investigation is ongoing and this story will be updated as additional information is made available.

Morgantown Volunteer Fireman Garnett Williams was one of many firemen on the scene.
