Morgantown Turns Pink

The Sixth Annual Turn Morgantown Pink was held on Sunday afternoon in the Butler County Courthouse lawn.  Becky Hankins, emcee and surivior, welcomed everyone followed by a prayer by Anita Cardwell.


Kim Moore, 32, was the keynote speaker sharing her story of surviving breast cancer.

"I will never forget the moment when I found the small nickel size knot; I felt as if my heart stopped and I could barely breathe," said Moore.
Moore had a double mastectomy and is now cancer free. 

 

The following breast cancer survivors were recognized by Audrey Pendley and presented a scarf from the Butler County Knitters and Crochet Club and a rose: Mona Daugherty, Tina Porter, Kyllie Doughty, Francis Johnson, Mary Lou Flener, Becky Hankins, Suan Parker, Carlan Pendley, Shanna Drake, Jackie Tarrance, Debbie Stewart, Terry Tarrance, Pamela McKinney, Majorie Flener, Kim Moore, and Sue White.

Other cancer survivors were also recognized: Francis Taylor, Susan Johnson, Barbara Coleman and Dianna Kessinger.

Family members and friends honored the memory of those who lost their battle with cancer: Kay Scarbeau,  Catherine Mason, Mickey Green, Aline Phelps, Arthur Baize, Jennie Drake, Stephanie McGill, Ruby Inglis, Jeannette Patterson, Donna Havens, Jane Hurst, Anita Greer, and Ruby Jackson.

Music for the event was provided by Hannah Embry and Brenn Embry.

Refreshments were served, cookies and pink lemonade.

In closing Hankins shared this thought, "I look forward to the day when little girls will grow up in a world when PINK RIBBONS are only for ponytails and prom dresses."

The group released PINK balloons in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
