Morgantown Mission's New Director

Laura West and Jennie Baker

February 1st was Jennie Baker's first day as the Director of the Mission, but she is no stranger; she has been working there for three years. Laura West has been working there seven years and was promoted to Store Manager.

They both have big shoes to fill, for the last fifteen years, Garry McKinney has been the face of the Mission, and he did a fantastic job of coordinating, fundraising, and providing services to families.

Feed the Need is one of the many programs that the Mission is involved in, but because of Covid restrictions, the United Way is postponing the food drive temporarily.

The Backpack Program is another way to help our children.

Melissa Glass, Butler County Family Resource Coordinator, sends home permission slips to all families that request food is sent home with students from K – 12. The Mission orders and packs the food, volunteers David and Donna Meier pick up and deliver the ready-to-eat food to the Family Resource Department at the Schools, and they distribute it to the children. The Backpack Program is a great program that takes many people to accomplish.

Feeding America sells food and supplies to the Mission. When available, the Mission will have a truckload of fruits and vegetables delivered to Butler County residents for free distribution. Once a month, Butler County seniors aged sixty and older can pick up a CSFP Food Box. The Kentucky Department of Agriculture started the commodities Supplement Food Program to help our Seniors.

The Missions Food Pantry is open next door to the main store on Tuesdays from 9 am to 1 pm. Ricky Tarrance, a long-time volunteer, opens the pantry. Ricky also leads the Alcoholics Anonymous meetings on Tuesday at 7 pm.

In November, Beech Tree News and WLBQ broadcast the Holiday Food Box fundraiser. For thirty dollars, you can provide a meal for a family of four. Each box also contains a ham or turkey. You can call in or do like many people did last year and stop in and drop off the donation.

The store business hours are Monday- Thursday 9 to 3
