Morgantown Mission distributes over 100 holiday meals as part of WLBQ Radio-thon

A holiday food box.

The Morgantown Mission gave away over 100 food boxes for Thanksgiving on Monday, November 25th. On November 8th the second Annual Morgantown Mission Radio-thon on WLBQ 1570 AM raised over $5,000 for the holiday food boxes.  Morgantown Mission director Garry McKinney picked up the turkeys on Monday morning and families were waiting in the parking lot for their boxes.

Packed boxes lined the wall of the Mission.

"We packed 100 boxes and people will come in throughout the day and pick up their box," said McKinney.

In response to the increased need this year, McKinney set the goal at 150 boxes for the radio-thon. Each $30 dollar pledge allowed McKinney to fill a box with a turkey, canned corn and peas, instant potatoes, mac and cheese, green beans, gravy mix, rolls, cranberry sauce, and dessert. "We give them enough food for a family of four, and more than enough meat. It's a good start to a dinner. If they want to add a little to it they can have a nice big dinner," said McKinney. For Christmas boxes, McKinney also adds fruit and candy.

Again, a BIG THANK YOU to everyone that donated.

Turkeys, turkeys, and more turkeys.
