Morgantown's McDonald's location recently unveiled a renovated store to the community with April 23's Grand Reopening.

At the beginning of the remodel process, McDonald’s owner Vince Tanner decided to post the Ten Commandments in store and feature uplifting religious messages on printed receipts—a gesture he said echoes his own beliefs.

“I put them up in this store at the time we did the remodel,” Tanner said. “I’ve got them at the three other locations we own. I think that it’s important to remember where all of life’s blessings come from. I believe that the creator has blessed us and we all need to remember him … in a more forthright way than a lot times we do."

Community reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, Tanner said.

“Naturally, there are individuals that perhaps would rather us not have it there and I respect their opinions on that,” he said. “It’s something I believe strongly in. The response generally has been overwhelmingly positive. For every negative, we get 20 to 30 that are positive."

Amy Tanner has been McDonald’s General Manager of the Morgantown location for eight years and said the religious message is something she stands firmly behind.

"To me it's something that is important,” she said. "They seem to be taking it out of everywhere so I’m glad to have it here."
