Morgantown Bank and Trust Announces Demolition of Historic Mural Building on Morgantown Square

MORGANTOWN, Ky. (Aug. 23, 2024) – Morgantown Bank and Trust Company, Inc. announces that the building located on the square in Morgantown, which features what the community has come to know as “The Mural,” will be torn down beginning Wednesday, August 28, 2024. The building, which has been owned by the bank for many years, has fallen into severe disrepair and is now structurally unsound.

“We understand the connection our community has with this mural and the memories it holds,” said Jason Jones, President and CEO of Morgantown Bank & Trust. “While the safety of our community requires the building’s demolition, we are committed to honoring the mural’s legacy. We hope to incorporate the spirit of this artwork into future enhancement projects at our facilities on the square.”

The mural, created in 2013 by Andee Rudloff, was enjoyed by the community as it reflected the vibrant spirit of Butler County. The mural was part of a broader effort to revitalize the downtown area, transforming the space into a vibrant gathering spot. Events like “Music at the Mural” brought the community together, fostering a sense of unity and celebration, and led to even bigger, more successful events such as Holiday Hoopla and Harvest on the Square.
