Monticello Revival

Monticello Revival by: Andy Sullivan

Sunday August 25-Wednesday August 28, Monticello Baptist Church held revival.  Sunday morning, Tom Firasek from St. Louis brought the message, as well as sang a few hymns.  Jeff Wells joined us Sunday night.  Jeff is pastor at Cross Keys Baptist Church in Florissant, MO. Their creed is “We’re Cross Keys Baptist Church; where the cross is key”.  As of this year in Sochi, Jeff will have been to the Olympics eight times to share the gospel.

Monday night, the main crux of the message brought by Bro. Jeff Wells was this: Are you following the legacy laid out before you? Before the message, Brother Firasek sang “In Christ Alone” and Rich Mullins’ “Shout to the Lord”.  Tuesday night, Brother Randy welcomed us.  This was followed by special music from Carter Creek.  They sang a medley of “Since Jesus Came Into My Heart”/”Victory In Jesus”/”Love Lifted Me”, as well as several other standards.  The message focused on Elijah and Ahab in First Kings.

Monticello’s revival services concluded Wednesday evening.  Before the sermon, Tom sang “Be Thou My Vision”. It’s a traditional hymn from Ireland and was written in the 6th century by Saint Dallan Forgaill (530-598). Eochaid is his given name.  Dallan was a nickname that meant “little blind one”, earned when he lost his sight.  The sermon Wednesday evening was on new beginnings.  We came away with 3 essential truths: 1) No one is beyond God’s reach.  2) Jesus does the saving (not you), and 3) Faithfulness to God is our only response.
