MEETING: Butler County Fiscal Court

Butler County Fiscal Court met in regular session on Monday, April 26, at the Butler County Courthouse. All magistrates - Stevie Givens, Kevin Phelps, Timmy Givens, David Whittinghill, and Dillon Bryant - were in attendance.

Lloyd Saylor presented the July 1, 2021-June 30,2022 budget summary for the County Extension District. According to Saylor, not a lot had changed due to Covid-19. The tax rate is the same as last year. When asked what they plan to do with the old Extension building, Saylor explained it is currently leased. The building will eventually be sold. However, it has to be done by sealed bid or public auction with a reserve.

The court reviewed and approved the only bid to repair Boss Hog Road and two sections of Leonard Oak Church Road. The bid was higher than the FEMA estimate on Leonard Oak Church Road. The cost of rock and hauling has increased. The county will have to supplement the repairs for approximately $30,000.

According to Judge-Executive Tim Flener, Cedar Ridge Raceway has submitted an entertainment application, and a public meeting will be held on May 4, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. in the judge's office.

The Green River Museum requested $2,500 from the court for operating expenses. The court granted $2,250, which is the amount approved in the budget. Magistrate David Whittinghill vote no on the budgeted amount.

Magistrates approved changing Gordon Harper from part-time road employee to full-time ferry operator.

The court also approved the KACO Health Insurance for their employees. There was a three percent increase in the premium the court voted to assume instead of passing the cost on the employees.

The first reading of the Ordinance to accept Eric Young Road into the County Road System was approved by a 4-1 vote. Magistrate Stevie Givens voted no, stating it was a dead-end road with two houses. Magistrate Kevin Phelps stated it was no different from Hidden Valley Road, also a dead-end road.

The Court approved the following by a 5-0 vote:

  • Bills and transfers
  • Purchase a radio replacement at the cost of $766 (destroyed in a house fire)
  • Purchase for Rescue Aid Grant not to exceed $2,500
  • Tire Clean Up May 13-15
  • Litter abatement payment Knight of Columbus $606.40
  • Inter-local Cooperation agreement between Butler County and the City of Rochester for pavilion and dock
