MEETING: Butler County Board of Education

The Butler County Middle School 7th and 8th Grade Band was recognized for receiving a Distinguished Rating at concert festival.

The Butler County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, May 9, at 6:30 p.m. at Butler County High School. Board members Debbie Hammers, Amy Hood, Delbert Johnson, and Aimee Sanders were in attendance.  Ryan Daugherty was unable to attend due to work. 

District Finance Officer Eric Elms presented the financial report for April.  The balance at the beginning of the month was $2,178,418.07. The end-of-the-month balance was $2,278,822.40. 

Dalton Lee

Superintendent Scott Howard and the board members recognized several students for their achievements.  Butler County High School student Ernest Lee was recognized for being accepted into the U.S. Naval Academy Summer Training Program.

Dalton Lee, a Butler County High School student, was recognized for being awarded a $125,000 NJROTC Scholarship from the University of Mississippi. The Butler County Middle School 7th and 8th Grade Band was recognized for receiving a Distinguished Rating at concert festival.

Mr. Howard reported the recent events he has attended and things going on in the school district.

•    Meeting with Isaac Myers- Representative from the Office of Governor Matt Bevin

Mr. John Dix, General Manager of Butler County Water System, presented a plaque to Mr. Michael Gruber, Butler County High School Principal, recognizing a new water bottle filling station for the high school.  Mr. Dix explained these stations help reduce the number of plastic bottles that end up in our landfills.  They also provide a healthy choice for all of the students. Mr. Dix informed the audience that the station had been used over 1,300 times since being installed.   Mr. Don Lindsey, board member for Butler County Water, Ms. Iris Moore, and Ms. Lisa Hale, employee with Butler County Water, were also in attendance to watch the presentation.

Mr. Hugh Hocker expressed his interest in Butler County High School beginning a strings program and asked the board to consider the idea. Hocker told the board there are scholarship opportunities available for students who play string instruments.  Superintendent Howard and the board thanked him for providing the information.


Superintendent Howard reminded the board of the following events:

•    KPREP Testing - May 8th – 16th, 2017
•    National Archery Competition - May 11th – 12th, 2017
•    8th Grade Recognition Ceremony - May 24th, 2017 - 1:00 p.m.
•    Butler County High School Graduation - May 26th, 7:30 p.m.

•    FY 17 School Facilities Construction Commission KETS Third Offer of Assistance in the amount of $9,685.00
•    FY 18 BRDHD School Nurse Agreement for All Schools
•    FY 17 Audit Contract with Carr, Riggs, & Ingram, LLC
•    Early Graduation Request for BCHS Student
•    BCMS Boys’ Basketball Overnight Trip Request to Attend the Steve Payne Golden Eagle Basketball Camp at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tennessee on June 21st– June 23rd, 2017
•    BCHS NJROTC Overnight Trip Request to Pensacola, Florida on June 5th-8th, 2017
•    BCHS NJROTC Trip Request to Attend Mini-Boot Camp at Artemis National Guard Training Facility in Barbourville, Kentucky on June 19th – 22nd, 2017
