3. Office Seeking: Butler County Jailer

4. Party Affiliation: Republican

5. What made you decide to run for this office?

I have been the Chief Deputy at the Butler County Jail for the past 5 years.  I have spent long hours and dedicated a lot of hard work to improving the lives of the inmates in the Butler County Jail, being a leader to the employees of the Butler County Jail, and keeping the community that we live in a safe place for our citizens of Butler County.  It is my dream to continue to serve in a larger capacity.  My goal is to see the Butler County Jail thrive and become productive in reducing recidivism.

The main reason for my decision to run for office, is because of my passion to help.  I want to see lives changed!  As Deputy Jailer, I have met so many through the Butler County Jail.  It is just a revolving door for so many Butler Countians and they deserve better.  This county is my home, and I feel obligated to give back to this community.  I know in my heart, I have so much to offer.

6. What are your main qualifications for this office?

I have worked at the Butler County Jail under two different administrations.  I was Chief Deputy for former Butler County Jailer, Rocky Tyree, as well as current Butler County Jailer, Ricky Romans.  I have served as Chief Deputy for five years.  In addition to my service in Butler County, I have labored across the United States.  I worked for the state of California, as well as the State of Oklahoma.  In both states, I worked with the criminally insane.  I spent my younger years serving in the Marine Corps, as well as served as Captain and Shift Supervisor at the Logan County Jail for three years prior to coming to Butler County.

Through my years, I have been trained in Supervisor Education, Kentucky Jail Standards and Policies, Suicide Prevention, Prison Rape Elimination Act Training and Investigations, Self-Defense, Firearms, Baton and OC Sprays.  In addition to this training, I have medication aid, AED and I am certified in CPR, all of this training adds to over four hundred hours of training that pertains to Jails, Prisons, and ensuring the safety of the inmated in those facilities.

7. If elected, what changes/improvements would you hope to bring to this office?

My goals for the Butler County Jail are very specific.  First and foremost, I promise to do my best to save this county money and be a good steward of your tax dollars.  I pledge to provide our employees with the training they need to perform their duties safely and adequately.  I will ensure the safety of the inmates, my staff, and always ensure the public's welfare is remembered first.

In addition to this, one of my biggest goals will be put the inmates to work for our county.  We currently have two work crews but my goal is to expand these.  I want our community to be proud of the clean roadsides, to be watchful of our cemeteries, and also do snow and ice removal in the winter.  I think utilizing this work will save our county money, and enable a better living environment for our families.

8. In summary, why should voters cast their ballot for you?

In history, many men and women have fought to give us the right to vote for what we believe in and the right for us to be united.  I believe in fairness, and respect for all.  I feel that I have the experience and the knowledge to oversee the Butler County Jail and its daily operations, but I need you all behind me.  I want to ensure a safe and efficient facility, with a productive team to operate our Jail.  It takes everyone from the floor deputies, the kitchen staff, the Class D Coordinator and our Cheif and Cheif Administrative Deputy to make a gratifying difference in a facility.  I want voters to cast a ballot for me and know that you are voting for a team of individuals that I will lead to work together to make a difference for you.  It takes us all to make an impact.  Please vote Ralph Spohn, #1 on the ballot for Butler County Jailer on May 17th.  Thank you.
