Meet the Candidate: Jarrod Evans PVA

Name: Jarrod Evans

Age: 41

Party Affiliation: Republican

What made you decide to run for this office?

I served as Deputy PVA for several years. During that time I fell in love with the service the office provides to the citizens of Butler County.

What are your main qualifications for this office?

As stated above I worked in the office previously as a Deputy PVA for many years.  During that time I was able to earn the designations of “Certified Kentucky Assessor” and “Senior Kentucky Assessor” from the Kentucky Department of Revenue.  Also, I was an intrical part of choosing, and then implementing, the office’s newest tax roll database software and digital mapping software.  The upgrade to these new systems allowed the office to integrate all its public data onto the office’s very first website. During my time as a deputy PVA I learned to handle every aspect of the office.

The PVA office is also a customer service business. We have to provide friendly customer service to our taxpayers everyday.  Tone, manners, and humbleness is important in the PVA office, due to the fact that sometimes the nature of property assessments ruffles feathers.  I have dedicated the last 16 years of my life to customer service. During my time in the PVA office I learned the essentials for handling all the situations and personalities that come in the door.  I have fine tuned that customer service  while working on the Med Surg floor of the Ohio County Hospital. Being in the hospital setting has truly taught me how to communicate with people in all kinds of situations, and how to change my social approaches depending on the situation.  In the hospital I strive to make my patient’s feel heard and important.  I will bring all my 16 years of customer service experience to the table for the people of Butler County.  When you come into the office, no matter who helps you, you will know you are appreciated, you are heard, and we understand you.

If elected, what changes/improvements would you hope to bring to the office?

First and foremost I will ensure that the staff shares my above stated customer service vision for the office.  I will set forth expectations for the staff that will guide them when working with the public.  Every person that comes through the doors of the PVA office will be addressed with absolute respect and appreciation, regardless of any issues they may have.  My staff will be fully cross-trained, therefore any given employee will be able to assist someone regardless of the need requested.

I plan to set quality guidelines into place to make sure the information housed in our office is correct.  The information that the office makes public for use, is a reflection not only on the office, but on the entire county.  People of various walks of life use the PVA database, and it should house reliable and accurate information/maps.

Technology evolves and that is definitely something that will be looked at.  Before jumping into promising new platforms and programs, I will first look at what can be done with what is in place.  Because I helped with the set-up of the website that is currently in place, I know that its settings can be adjusted.  The company that currently hosts the PVA website, should be able to easily adjust many things in order to make it more aesthetically pleasing, as well as more user friendly.  As far as the tax roll database program, it will need to be looked at.  When I was a deputy we upgraded to the system that is currently in use, and it was a very powerful and capable system.  If it continues to be maintained and updated by the company, then there will be no reason to upgrade soon.  However, a database is only as good as the data that is put in it.  Which is why I plan to set up the quality guidelines I mentioned above.

In summary, why should voters cast their ballot for you?

It is my desire to serve the people of Butler County. I have made that evident over the last 16 years of my life, giving my spare time to many clubs, committees, and boards in the county. I also have many years of experience working as a deputy in the PVA office.  Your vote would allow me to put my experience and desire to serve together, to work for you.  Your vote puts me one step closer to being able to work for you, and I look forward to that.
