M.C.C. to celebrate 20th Anniversary

A local church is turning 20-years old and a party is planned for Saturday, June 4, to celebrate the occasion.  Morgantown Community Church, most commonly referred to as M.C.C. got its start in Morgantown in 1996.  For several years the church met in auditorium at Butler County High School.  Known for its contemporary music and come-as-you-are approach to worship, the church grew quickly.  As the church experienced growth, plans were put in place for the construction of a church building.  A location on Bowling Green Road (U.S. 231 South) was selected and the building project was completed in 2002.

Three senior pastors have served M.C.C.  Pete Wilson (1996-2000) was the founding pastor, followed by Gregg Ferrell (2000-2004).  Josh Scott (2005-present) now serves the church as senior pastor.

Festivities will get underway on Saturday at 6 p.m.  The celebration will consist of a community dinner party, along with plenty of food, fun and friends.

"We are so excited to be celebrating twenty years of ministry together. M.C.C. has a short (so far), but rich history of offering 'real hope, for real people, in a real world.' Many of us have taken important steps on our journey as a part of this community, and there are many more to come," said Pastor Josh Scott.  "We are excited about this upcoming milestone, and we will use it as an opportunity to celebrate and honor our past, reflect on the present, and dream about the future as a community."

Stressing the uniqueness of the M.C.C. church experience, Scott said he is grateful for the role the church and its people have played in his life.

"M.C.C. has been such a gift in my life, and I, along with many others, am grateful to the handful of people who had courage and a vision to start a church that would operate in a different way in the world. Much has changed over the past 20 years, but that sense of calling to be a church for people who don't do church is still the driving force behind what we do," said Scott.

Following the Saturday celebration, there will be one "Celebration Service" on Sunday, June 5, at 10 a.m.  The church has historically offered two Sunday worship services - one at 9 a.m. and the other at 10:30 a.m.  However, beginning this Sunday, the church plans to have one service throughout the summer beginning at 10 a.m.

As the month continues, the church will hold its annual Vacation Bible School June 13-17 from 6 to 8 p.m. nightly.  A pool party is to kick-off V.B.S. is set for Sunday, June 12, at the Morgantown City Pool from 4 to 6 p.m.

Scott is excited about the various summer activities planned at M.C.C.

"I am really looking forward to having everybody in one service this summer. We hope this will be an intentional time of community and relationship building among our people," said Scott.  "We will also have coffee and pastries before hand, at 9:30, in hopes to foster more connection and conversation."

The public is invited to attend the M.C.C. 2oth Anniversary party, the "Celebration Service" on Sunday, V.B.S. and all church activities.
