Mayor Phelps Elected to KLC Executive Board

LEXINGTON, KY – Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) membership elected Morgantown Mayor Billy Phelps to the organization’s Executive Board. Phelps has been mayor since 2015 after 25 years with the Morgantown Police Department, including five years as police chief.

 

 

The 18-member KLC Executive Board is the League’s governing body and oversees its business operations. The board consists of elected and appointed city officials. This is Phelp’s first term on the Executive Board. He has been on the KLC Board of Directors and KLC Insurance Services Board since 2017.

 

Mayor Phelps said he is honored to have the opportunity to serve. “KLC has such an important role in helping cities like Morgantown grow and prosper,” he stated. “I am humbled by the appointment to the Executive Board and look forward to helping KLC members, employees, and city officials across the state. A strong KLC means a strong Kentucky.”

 

KLC Executive Director|CEO James D. Chaney thanked Mayor Phelps for his commitment to cities. “We are blessed to have so many leaders willing to volunteer their time and expertise for the League and our members,” he said. “Mayor Phelps’ dedication and knowledge make him a great fit for the KLC Executive Board.”   

 

 

The Kentucky League of Cities is a nonprofit member organization that has served Kentucky cities and municipal agencies since 1927. The League provides cities various services, including legislative advocacy, legal guidance, training, economic development, financing, and research.
