March 29 proclaimed Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans' Day

On the morning of Monday, March 28 Jane Smith, a member of the Butler County DAR, met with Mayor Billy Phelp as they signed a proclamation declaring March 29, 2016 as Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans' Day. 

March 29, 1975 is the last day U.S. troops were on the ground in Vietnam. 

More than 9,000 organizations across the country have joined with the Department of Defense as a Commemorative Partners to honor our Nation's Vietnam Veterans, including the Butler County Chapter National Society Society Daughters of the American Revolution. 

The commemoration includes the nine million Americans, approximately 7 million living today, who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during this period, and makes no distinction between those who servd in-country, in-theater or were stationed elsewhere during those 20 years. 

Veteran's Affairs Secretary Robert A. McDonald has designated March 29,2016, March 29th the last day that U.S.troops were on the ground in Vietnam, as a day to honor those who have "borne the battle" and to extend gratitude and appreciation to them and their families.
